Knitting for the impatient

Just when you fall in love... they discontinue it.

I've been trying to knit a plethora of baby stuff for all of the impending births around the office and friends. I think its guilt taking over because there were a batch of them last summer and I didn't pull it together in time, despite having at least five half finished hats waiting. I'm horrible at getting people stuff on time. Anything hand made is always late. For example, Alex's hat I made him when we first started dating, I finished at the end of winter after having started it almost six months before. His scarf, started last fall, is half done, and it was promised years ago. If I finish the bags I was going to make for my bridesmaids in time for what was the original wedding date, it will only be because we are already married. (a month last Sunday)
But I digress. My reason for this post is to complain. I love yarn. I love it too much really, but too much love is still love. I fell in love with a cheap yarn. Not a regular thing for me. I have expensive taste because of years of natural fiber clothes and easy access to fiber from friend's sheep. The yarn was Cotton Ease from Lions Brand. The lovely people who bring you Wool Ease and a lot of new cheap novelty yarn. The stuff that use to require a loan to make anything out of because the people who made it were special and came from places like the Netherlands. I had just finished my first baby sweater out of it. I was all set to make many many more, and even blankets (the largest thing I would have made to date unless you count my super chunky poncho). After confirming that there was at least one girl on the way, I went to Crafty Planet and place my order for a nice hot pink. But alas, gone. Without any warning, and no official posting to date on their website. I have options for replacements. CottonTots (I already have enough for a blanket, I'll let you know how it goes) and Cotton Plus . Trish at Crafty Planet is the best, she's ordering my Cotton Plus. We're both pretty cautious about it since Coats & Clark is not known for its high quality yarn. Cotton Tots looks great, and if it really is machine washable, then it may be my new favorite.
Fortunately my desire to knit baby stuff hasn't waned. I'm spurred on by the sweater I started out of some Rowan yarn. The price is spurring me on. I cannot let that amount of money just sit in my stash. Besides, its really pretty.
